Over the course of Transition Year we aim to provide opportunities for students to develop, experience a range opportunities and become an independent and self-motivated learner. We also aim to help prepare for adult life through contact with work experience and career interest. In addition, we aim to develop a civic awareness in our Transition Year students through serving the local community on a voluntary basis, through fund-raising and a variety of social awareness projects.
Following a busy induction week students settle into their timetables. During the first term students participate in a four day personal growth and team building residential trip to Carlingford Adventure Centre.
Over the course of the year students study and experience a combination of core, module and TY specific subjects. The availability of option and specific subjects may vary year to year depending on demand, availability of resources and curriculum development.
Core Subjects: Irish, English, Maths, PE and Language
Module Subjects: Business, Home Economics, Woodwork, Metalwork, Science, Coding, Computers, Art, Religious Education, Career Guidance, RSE, Music, History
Specific Subjects: Drama, Dance, Irish Culture Studies, Young Social Innovators, Chinese, TY Talks, Portfolio, Paired Reading, Peer Education (Jigsaw) and Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teenagers,
Volunteering Projects: Tallaght Hospital Christmas Cards, Irish Heart Foundation, Irish Wheelchair Association and Pieta House
Career/ College Interest: Trinity College (Coding, Bridge 21), DCU Academic Week, ITT Engineering Week and placements at Google and Law Society of Ireland.
