Working Together for Student Success
Our Guidance Counsellors work closely with the Care Team- including the Principal, Deputy Principals, Year Heads, class tutors, and subject teachers - to provide the best possible support. We also liaise with parents, employers, colleges, and the Department of Education to ensure every student has access to the right opportunities and advice.
What We Do
1. Career Guidance
Choosing a career is a process, not a one-time decision. Throughout their time at St Mark’s, students meet with Ms Lenihan or Ms Klyaritskaya individually to discuss their interests, skills and ambitions. Support includes:
-
Career interest and aptitude assessments
-
CV preparation, cover letter writing, job search skills, interview techniques, and understanding employment rights
-
Information on third-level courses in Ireland and the EU, including entry requirements, course content, and progression routes
-
Guidance with CAO/UCAS, HEAR/DARE applications, and PLC options
-
College open day planning
-
Advice on adjusting to third-level life – independent learning, time management, and available supports
-
Information on grants, scholarships, and financial aid
2. Educational Guidance
Guidance classes and one-to-one meetings can cover:
-
Study skills and exam preparation techniques
-
Choosing subjects and levels that match student strengths
-
Managing homework, time, and study schedules
-
Coping with exam pressure
3. Personal Guidance
Confidential support is available for any student facing personal challenges.
Sometimes, a listening ear is all that’s needed; other times, we provide ongoing help or connect students with additional supports.
