The Oak Team is a long standing student group at St Mark’s Community School that focuses on building a culture of care, kindness and connection across our school community. Established in 2014, the team was created by students who wanted to make a difference by promoting compassion and positivity in everyday school life.
Under the guidance of Ms. Byrne and Mr. Keating, the Oak Team meets weekly at lunchtime to plan and organise events that bring people together and support student wellbeing. They also meet at other times throughout the year when there is a need to respond to what is happening in the school or wider community. .
Throughout the school year, the Oak Team leads a wide range of activities and initiatives, including:
-
Celebrations for World Teachers’ Day, World Mental Health Day and World Kindness Day
-
Care Packages for 6th Years during the mock exams
-
Seasonal competitions like the Christmas Door Competition, Christmas Card Competition and the popular Count the Mini Egg Challenge
-
Fun quizzes, creative displays and themed events for occasions like Christmas, Easter and Summer
By supporting events both big and small, the Oak Team plays a vital role in making St Mark’s a more inclusive, caring, and joyful place to be. Their work reminds us that small acts of kindness can have a big impact — and that community is built through connection!
